About the Global Public Health Unit

The Global Public Health Unit offers an interdisciplinary and policy-focused approach to understanding population health and the factors that influence it at the national, regional and global levels. GPHU draws together expertise from a diverse range of disciplines including public health, political science, social policy, economics, medicine, epidemiology, geography and anthropology. The Unit is a leading centre for research organised around four intersecting themes, each of which is central to contemporary policy debates:

GPHU is located within the Social Policy subject area in the School of Social and Political Science, one of Europe’s leading centres of social science research. The School’s interdisciplinary structure facilitates close working links with Politics and International Relations, Anthropology, the Institute of Governance, the Centre for African Studies, the Centre for South Asian Studies, and the Institute for the Study of Science, Technology and Innovation. The unit enjoys excellent links with the School of Clinical Science and Community Health in the College of Medicine and Veterinary Medicine, the leading community health research centre in the UK.

The Unit is a leader in global health education, providing an exciting range of taught programmes  and research training opportunities and attracting students from around the world.
