Biographical Statement

My research focuses on the privatisation and marketisation of social policy, but my research interest is generally in comparative social policy. I have worked on concepts and normative foundations of social policy, pension policy, education policy, Nordic welfare states, and to some extent on gender and the welfare state. In my comparative work I try to combine different methods, ranging from qualitative policy analysis, interviews, discourse analysis, network analysis to quantitative measures.

I am currently (2009-2011) a research fellow on the ESRC research grant "Welfare Markets and Personal Risk Management in England and Scotland", with my colleagues Jochen Clasen (PI), Alison Koslowski (CI), and Traute Meyer (CI, Southampton). From 2007 to 2009 I worked at the Centre of Social Policy Research (CeS, University of Bremen) as a research assistant and taught in social policy. I am still finishing my PhD at the Bremen International Graduate School of Social Sciences (BIGSSS). In my thesis I compare the development of welfare markets in Germany, Sweden, and the US. I studied political science, biology, and education at the University of Bremen (2001-2006) and at the University of Växjö (Sweden 2005).

My CV contains a full record of publications and other academic activities.

Recent Activities

I presented my conceptual work on welfare markets at two conferences. The papers are available at the websites of the SASE annual meeting and the SPA conference.

I recently contributed to the Rethinking Retirement Seminar Series:
