Stephen has a first degree in Mathematics from the University of Cambridge, and a postgraduate diploma in Land Economics from the University of Aberdeen.

Stephen Hinchliffe has a Joint ESRC/Scottish Government studentship. He is currently studying for an MSc by Research in Social Policy and intends to continue with a PhD as a member of the Centre for Research on Families and Relationships. His research will involve the analysis of data from the ‘Growing Up in Scotland’ survey, a longitudinal study of children up to the age of five, and will make comparisons with similar international studies. It will also involve collaboration with the Scottish Government.
Prior to returning to university, Stephen worked for six years in the Scottish Executive (now the Scottish Government) as an assistant statistician.
