Research Interests

After receiving my Bachelor of Arts degree from Smith College, a double major in Government (Political Science and Pre-Law Studies) and African American Studies (Interdisciplinary), I went on to undertake an MPS (Master of Professional Studies) in Africana Studies and Research (Interdisciplinary) at Cornell University.  For my thesis I focused on interrogating identity construction in Brazil through race, culture and politics.  My work experience covers a diverse area of fields and interests including HIV/AIDS Prevention, Criminal Justice (primarily working with a female clientele), Alternative Youth Education and Labour Organizing within the American Federation of Labour – Congress of Industrial Organizations.  I have a life-long interest in issues pertaining to human rights, equality, social justice and change.  My current interest is to investigate how to challenge the centre of public discourse on these issues so that it can open itself up more to the voices, experiences and participation of youth and children.
